Sal Island Terrain

The aerial photo on here was taken looking down over Vila Verde (left) and Santa Maria (far right) on Sal, it shows the flat landscape of the south of the island. Photo taken by Mr. S.Leese, Barnsley. Read on (....)

There is a lot of hype in the UK and Ireland about the Cape Verde islands. Some photos of Sal in Tour Operator and various Property magazines look lovely, but Barbados it isn’t!

A Place in the Sun Live -
The show was held on 25th-27th April 08 at London ExCel. There were several Real Estate agencies selling and promoting Sal. On looking at the displays of some it was still clear that some people would believe that Sal or Cape Verde had vast amounts of palm tree lined beaches. Amanda Lamb stated that she had been to Sal in 2005 and was suprised on arrival by the dry landcape.

It did annoy her that some people who were selling property on Sal were not telling people what it was really like. She went on to urge people to carry out as much research as possible and visit places before making a decision to buy property anywhere.

Amanda's statement was nothing new to those who had already visited the island. Most of us that have moved to Sal Island, Cape Verde came here after carrying out research and visiting the island at least once.

Sal island is nothing like Barbados, the palm tree lined beaches that you may see on photos will probaby not have been taken on any Cape Verde Island.

However,
take a look at the Cotton Bay Photo Album within Picasa Albums in the Photo Gallery. Click on the link, it will show you plants, pictures and video of what can be grown on Sal and the other slands, with a regular supply of re-treated water. Also read the featured article about Cape Verde Landscapes in the 'What we do'...

Some people are looking to invest on other islands. Sao Vicente, Santo Antao, Santiago, Sao Niclolau and Boa Vista are the other islands being considered. Some islands are flatter than others, some are mountainous, and other a mixture of both.

There are some people now looking for opportunities and something different for an investment, holiday accommodation or alternatively for a 3-6months stay.

There are many things to consider, many questions and answers I have not as yet been able to include on this website.

Some islands will take a lot longer to get the infrastructure than others, but they are still worth visiting. A few islands do have a business or cultural base such as Praia and Mindelo.

Do your research on the islands you would prefer to visit before landing on Sal, and book your inter island flights before arriving on Sal or Santiago from the UK, otherwise you may be in for a disappointment.

Browse through this website. Read about Sal and some of the visits to islands. Take a look at the picasa photo albums within the Photo Gallery.
