AccomodationA number of hotels and hostel type accomodation are available on the islands of Cape Verde. They do differ in style, standards and quality. Some of the hotels are newer than others and built by Italian, Spanish, Belgian and Cape Verde investors and a few others. There are new hotels and resorts being bult such as the one that opened on Sal Island which is the Tortuga Beach Resort. It has 14 hotel rooms and then more villas and apartments which are mostly managed by Sol-Melia.
Within the new section 'White Pages - Sal Island' you will find some accomodation on Sal and also Tour Companies with which you can book your travel and your accomodation at the same time. They are familiar with the accomodation available on all islands. We have some hotels and accomodation types listed on our Yellow-E-Business section which you can visit to find out more about what people have said about them. There are 10 islands from which you may wish to visit : Sal, Boavista, Sao Vicente, Santo Antao, Maio, Santiago, Sao Nicolau, Fogo, Brava and Santa Luzia, some islands have more types of accomodation than others. Having been to seven out of the 10 islands I know there is a range of accomodation types to choose from. With international airports on Sal, Santiago, Boavista and now on Sao Vicente, people will be able to fly in from various countries and be able to island hop either by air or sea to see more of other islands. They are currently doing this now, but as explained in the Travel section and other places within this website, there are things you need to consider when planning inter island travel. There are some basic rooms in some accomodation types, no high standards, but are you really bothered as long as its clean. Others types of accomodation will be more costly, ensuite rooms, power showers and air con.....its your choice and your budget! Some places may not have English speaking staff or only speak Portuguese so you may wish to take that into account when trying to contact them directly. A few hotels closed on Sal early late 2010, there is no sign of them re-opening. UK Hotels
You may be looking to pre-book your hotel stay at an airport in the UK before you travel to Sal Island or Boavista Island. There are many to chose from amongst Birmingham Airport Hotels, Bristol Airport Hotels, Glasgow Airport Hotels, London Gatwick Airport Hotels and Manchester Airport Hotels. Some UK Airport Hotels will provide FREE car parking with your accomodation booking. Some hotels will provide Free transport to and from your UK airport hotel. Some hotels may be within walking distance of the airport terminal. You may have to shop around for budget hotels or any with Special Offers. If you are booked on a flight to Cape Verde, it usually means an early start to catch your flight to Sal or Boavista in the morning, you may wish to book a hotel for the night before you depart. If returning from Cape Verde to the UK you may well know that the flights depart in the afternoons and you are flying for six and a half hours, then the wait for your luggage, it could be you wished you had booked that hotel in advance. Some hotels are cheaper to book in advance than on arrival. European Hotels If you are flying from or into one of the other European Countries to/from Sal or Boavista then you may like to consider booking a hotel before or after you return. You may be taking a non-direct flight via Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Germany or another country, so you may wish to consider a mid point stop over. Non-European destinations
Flying to other countries such as Boston in the USA or Dakar in Senegal will require an over night stay at a hotel in Praia on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde.
